Philipp Gerisch is a percussionist, handpan, and didgeridoo player from Fürth in Franconia.
His musical journey began at the age of 11 when he first heard a didgeridoo and soon managed to produce his first sounds on the instrument. A year later, he discovered the African djembe and, along with his brother Max, started learning to play this instrument as well.
At the age of 16, Philipp built his first cajon entirely by himself and adapted some playing techniques from the djembe to the new instrument. The cajon soon became his main instrument, especially during performances as an Irish folk duo with his brother. In 2017, Philipp discovered cajons from the company Sela and immediately fell in love with the Sela Pro Snare On/Off mechanism. In addition to several other percussion instruments, the Dan Moi jaw harp, and the kalimba, a new instrument, the handpan, was added to his collection in 2017.
Philipp Gerisch has been performing concerts for over 10 years and also offers beginner courses in didgeridoo and djembe playing for children and adults. With his solo project, he brings captivating beats and exotic sounds into harmony. An important element besides stage performances is street music, which always holds surprises. His second album, titled “Karijini,” was released in April 2018.
Currently, the young musician lives in Fürth and, in addition to his solo project, collaborates with other musicians such as Max Gerisch (harmonica, piano, percussion), various beatboxers, and singer-songwriters, and introduces his unusual instruments in schools and kindergartens.
